Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018): Best Analysis
Samsung has renewed The medium range of devices just beginning 2018 with two new versions of the Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus, two phones that have evolved to the point of showing a design far superior to other devices that belong to this segment, although we must also add that have a slightly higher price with respect to those same devices, very much in spite of the fact that their performance is not even close to that of the Samsung Galaxy S8 of last year.
The Galaxy A8 is the smallest of the devices of the A8 series of 2018 and looks willing to compete with phones that also have almost infinite screen despite its price passado tone. in the U.S, for example, costs $359.99, more than other equipment in the same segment as the LG Q6 that costs 280 dollars or the same as the Honor View 10, whose main camera is dual or One Plus 5T that has been rated as one of the best phones below 360 dollars.
Samsung has been working to turn the mid-range into a more luxurious level, something that distances it from other competitors such as Xiami and Mi Mix 2 model, which costs the same as the Galaxy A8, but has a better processor and more storage. Of course, there are key differences that make this special equipment, such as the incorporation of a dual front camera, one of its great allegations to get into your pocket.
The fingerprint sensor is located underneath the camera, the perfect place that Samsung did not find in the Galaxy Note 8

Infinite Screen: Its Great Novelty
The Samsung Galaxy A8 is the first phone of the South Korean company that integrates an infinite screen in the mid-range. In particular, we have 5.6 inches, which have few edges at the top and bottom, which eliminates the fingerprint sensor from the front and whose sides are quite small.
The Super AMOLED panel has a resolution of 1,080×2,220 pixels and as is customary in Samsung allows us to activate four different styles of screen mode, Adaptive Display that makes the saturation and sharpness brighter, AMOLED Cinema and AMOLED Photo for colors Warmer and a basic color balance mode
Something interesting is that it has a panel of 18.5: 9 and allows you to watch videos on the full screen. for example, if you are watching YouTube, you only have to pinch on the screen to adapt the video to the entire panel. Also through settings> Screen, you can select which apps you want to see full screen. Samsung will leave deactivated the apps that you consider will not have a good performance, although you can activate it and try them on your own, yes, not all apps will appear in this section.
Samsung also incorporated Always on Display as usual, which allows you to see basic information with the screen “off” and consumes little energy while showing you this content.
The Galaxy A8 is fiberglass, and that allows it to be a magnet for fingerprints
While the screen covers much of the front of the computer – although not as much as the Galaxy Note 8, or possibly as much as the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus – the rest of the phone maintains a curved line design. Its glass back shell is very easy to handle with your fingerprints. Unlike the Note 8, this equipment has the finger sensor on the bottom of the camera, something that makes it easy to use
In the front, we find in the upper right corner the dual camera, the other great novelty of the team, after its infinite screen on a mid-range phone.
This device has a USB Type C port and keeps the traditional 3.5mm headphone connector on the bottom. Our test unit has a dual SIM, which allows you to place a nano SIM and a microSD card of up to 256GB in the upper slot and a second nanoSIM in the right one. This is different from what other phones offer, which have a single slot and tray, in which to place the two SIM cards, you end up sacrificing the microSD or vice-versa.
Performance of The Galaxy A8 (2018)
The Galaxy A8 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat incorporates Samsung Experience 8.5 interface, the same with which the Galaxy Note 8 was launched. In general, Samsung remains true to the design of its Android adaptation, with icons of rounded curves, the Possibility to have several desks but also to have a drawer of applications
A point that is unfortunate is that the device comes with an old version of Android and the same as the Note 8 that has almost six months of existence when there are many phones that already incorporate Android Oreo since you take it out of the box
In our tests, the Galaxy A8 has not suffered any problem of slowness or overheating, even when we used the camera to record or stream video. In general use, this is a computer that uses its software and its eight-core Exynos 7885 processor very well. We have not had problems using the split screen or multitasking, and the most powerful video games do not suffer when we spend a while casting a game. Be it Asphalt Nitro or Super Mario Run.
As you can see in our performance tests, the Galaxy A8 surpasses other mid-range phones with an infinite screen like the LG q6 or the Honor 7X, which are also significantly cheaper. However, due to its intermediate processor, it is not able to surpass last year’s Galaxy S8.
