Oppo R15 Pro, Analysis and Experience of Use

We analyze the Oppo R15 Pro, the first mobile of the Chinese brand on its return to Europe. A mobile that bet everything on its design and camera,

A few weeks ago Oppo announced its arrival in America, recently presenting the Oppo R15 Pro. We have been with it for a couple of days and we tell you about our experience with one of the main mobile phones that the Chinese manufacturer has decided to bring to America

The Oppo R15 Pro seemed a mobile-oriented to the premium mid-range, a market increasingly saturated with alternatives, such as Honor, Xiaomi or OnePlus. Each manufacturer is putting all the meat in the spit and Oppo will have to show us why their new model is worth more than these great ones that we already know very well.

It is a complete terminal in benefits, with many virtues, but also with some other defect. A mobile with a layer of personalization to which we are not accustomed, but which also does not work very badly, we tell you everything

Fashionable Design of 2018

If you are one of those users who detests the notch and is willing to blacklist any mobile that bets on this type of screen, because you can stop reading, this phone is not for you. A lot of screen in a front that does not leave much space

Yes, Oppo wanted to point to trends with 84.1% of the screen (according to GSMArena) and a notch. Does this design affect the user experience? I would say it depends on your use. The reason is that this screen layout does not leave any space for the notification icons that we could previously consult in the status bar, so we technically lose a feature as an Android user you can value. On a personal level, it does not affect me since I have more and more notifications deactivated on my mobile, as I told in this article.

Beyond this small paragraph on the subject of the screen, mention that the design is beautiful, elegant, and that draws attention, for good, it is a mobile that uses the metal in the frames and glass back. The glass has slightly curved edges, making them a tremendously comfortable mobile to handle. Having a good design is not only about making it beautiful, but it should be practical.

However, it is also a precious mobile. The unit that we have been able to try is in red color, and in spite of not being a color that I especially love, in the end, it has raised passions in me, asking if I chose well my taste for the blue color.

The red of this mobile is bright, following a gradient of light red to dark. It is bright and even if the fingerprints are easily left, they do not show as much. The red side frame is uniform, in a metallic red tone that is also very cool. The fingerprint reader is also red but in a slightly pink hue. For lovers of red, this mobile is spectacular.

Turning to the elements, we have the double rear camera accompanied by an LED flash in the upper left area. Below the reader and logo of Oppo, and the typical writings of the model and where it has been manufactured.

Most notable is the lower area, where we have the loudspeaker, main microphone (the noise cancellation is in the upper area), as well as a single speaker and micro USB. How? How do you read it? We do not understand the decision of Oppo and why such an expensive mobile phone has a port that for years mobile phones in this category do not use.

It is a mobile that captivates and attracts attention. The Oppo R15 Pro in red lifts passions.

All The Features You Would Expect From A category Mobile

Within this mobile, we find a rather atypical hardware configuration. A Snapdragon 660 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal Storage, “That was not a mid-range processor?” Well, yes, we could say that it is, although in terms of performance is quite close to the Snapdragon 835. The truth is that when I started using this mobile I did not know what processor I was using, and until I started writing this analysis, I did not know I had a second-rate processor.

Although You Have No Performance Problems, You Might Miss The Last of The Last

If you do not look at the numbers, in the end, the experience of use is high-end. The system runs smoothly and the games perform at full capacity thanks to the Oppo game mode that improves graphics, a way similar to the Huawei Turbo GPU.

The screen is at a good level too, although the first one does not impress. The calibration of it ends up showing very natural colors, so even if it does not have that “wow” effect, it also gives you a more neutral point of view when taking a picture and knowing that when you share it, people are going to see with the same tones that you had captured.

Color OS And What This Layer of Customization Is Able To offer

Oppo is not a brand that we know a lot. A few years ago they were not present in our country, and since then the brand has greatly improved its customization layer. At a visual level, it is still inspired by iOS, although at the bottom of everything we find Android 8.1 Oreo.

During the next few days we will tell you in a more detailed article all the secrets of this layer of personalization, but suddenly we will begin with the most important details that we have found.

When discarding a notification, we can not do it by sliding. It is necessary that you slip the notification from right to left and press the red button that will appear. An additional and unnecessary step when deleting notifications that only adds discomfort.

We have a game mode that improves graphics and is able to block calls and notifications.

In addition to secure folder and password protected applications, we have a children mode that allows us to limit the use of mobile to a specific time of use, in addition to choosing which applications may or may not open your children.

In the privacy settings, we have a secure keyboard that appears when entering passwords automatically. This keyboard stands out for not registering our pulsations, which avoids that if we use some type of keyboard that is not very reliable, they can not steal the password. By default and in all other cases, Oppo’s default keyboard is GBoard, the Google keyboard.

It has a space cleaner.

More importantly, in the space cleaner, we have a tool created exclusively to clean WhatsApp. Top

We have customizable gestures with the screen off. An identity sign of Oppo that is still present and works very well For example, we can draw an O to activate the camera, V to use the flashlight or>, <, || to control the music without turning on the screen.

We can open the camera from the quick settings.

We have facial unlocking and it works very well.

If you use headphones, you have access to an equalizer.

An additional detail that has caught our attention is that this mobile is in the list of devices that support the beta version of Android P officially, so it is expected that it is the first devices to end up receiving the new version of Android. We have not been able to try this version at the moment, but that we can access a beta version of Android that was previously reserved for the Nexus and Pixel is at least curious.

Autonomy And Charge Top, With A Small Error

When talking about autonomy, Chinese mobile phones are wrapped in their own myth. Normally the Chinese personalization layers extend the autonomy of these mobiles based on cutting back processes in the background, which usually has an effect on the fact that sometimes we are left without receiving notifications.

In this regard, the Oppo R15 Pro has not disappointed us. Its 3400 mAh give us autonomy for a day and a half, or even to end a demanding day with plenty of batteries. My use these days has been summarized to see about an hour a day of Netflix, an hour of listening to Podcasts, a time to play. In addition to all this, I have also pulled tethering to work in mobility and the typical use of emails, social networks and messaging.

Very remarkable the consumption of a battery in rest, Oppo here has done it frankly very well. Many Android phones weaken in this aspect, and the consumption at rest of this mobile is at the height of the best.
