Nokia 8 Sirocco, “Edge”
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is the manufacturer’s new bet for the high-end Android. This time with the one version of the system, And with a different design, something more than a year ago that Nokia presented in society its return to the field of smartphones. The brand never left the front page of technology because it is a giant of telecommunications, but it was stripped of the former empire of smartphones. In the MWC 2018 Nokia renews its commitment to Android, now with much more impetus. And the Nokia 8 Sirocco is the mobile with which aims at the top.
The first feeling you have when viewing this mobile is that Nokia has made an “edge” Smartphone. That is, with the edges of the screen curved as the Galaxy S6 Edge (and previously the Galaxy Note Edge) premiered at the time. The screen embraces the side edges of the aluminum body to offer much more immersion when we place the Nokia 8 Sirocco horizontally. Of course, as I say in the title, the curved screen “has a trap”: the panel does not end at the limit with the aluminum body, but reserves about 3 millimeters on each side; which widens the width of the phone, something that shows in the grip.
Leaving aside the questions of design, which I will address, more in-depth in the next section, let’s go to the technical sheet to give a review of the specifications. Is the Nokia 8 Sirocco the contender for the high-end that the manufacturer needs to compete with the heavyweights of 2018?
Features of The Nokia 8 Sirocco: powerful, But With A Processor From Last Year.
This mobile is no longer a revision of the Nokia 8, the mobile phone that HMD Global presented in August 2017. The aspect changes dramatically: in addition to dispensing with the physical buttons to place the navigation menu on the screen, said curved screen gives Sirocco with a lot of charisma. And do not forget that the “Sirocco” comes for a Nokia classic, the 8800 Sirocco.
These are the complete specifications of the Smartphone that concerns us. He does not have much to envy to the best of last year, but maybe for this year it will start with some disadvantages

A Blod Design With Very Good Metal Finishes
The original Nokia 8800 Sirocco was one of those phones that only a fraction of those who aspired to it reached. Exclusive, with an exceptional design, well finished in every detail, all this has been transferred to a Smartphone with Android getting a very compact mobile that does not become big at any time. Maybe something wide: as I remarked at the beginning, the curved edges of the screen do not end in the body of the Nokia 8 Sirocco, so we have a few millimeters of the frame in these areas. And a good portion up and down, although not too overdone.
The side frames stand out even though the Nokia 8 Sirocco is an “edge” mobile, the quality overflows every millimeter. Very good finishes, transfer of the physical control buttons to the screen to favor the symmetry of the front; although with a glass back face to which the traces are grabbed as if it had glue, especially in the black color. Thanks to the glass finish the Nokia 8 Sirocco takes the opportunity to integrate wireless charging.
If we look at the back face, here we find the presence of the double camera with its double objective. This protrudes excessively from the body, so it hobbles on any flat surface. The lenses, however, are protected against scratches on these surfaces. And if we look at the rest of the elements, we find the Nokia logo in the center and the Android One logo at the bottom.
The buttons on the side have seemed small and hard to press. Surely this is remedied with the practice: lack a good review to the Nokia 8 Sirocco to find out.
Very Good Hardware With Sticks In The Central Core
The Snapdragon 835 processor has already done enough demonstrations of power and capabilities at this point. It is a great SoC for any Smartphone and will stand for quite some time at the top, but the problem at this point is clear: going out with a processor last year is an inconvenience when the brand aims at the top. With its nuances, that the price of the Nokia 8 Sirocco is not as inflated as that of the competition; without ceasing to be high. $609
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is not the most expensive, but for its price should have a top processor this year
In the storage stands out, also in the amount of RAM: 128 AND 6 GB, A battery that seems to comply with the necessary without being exaggerated: 3260 mAH. It has fast charging and also incorporates the always welcome wireless charging. Two details that are always worth mentioning
With the evolution to Sirocco, this Nokia 8 changes from an IPS screen to a pOLED panel. The main reason is to favor the curved edges, but also brings the benefits of the organic panel: higher contrast, deep blacks, and a good color representation. The maximum brightness is at a good level, also the viewing angles.
Nokia Is Decided By Android One Even Though Their Phones Were Already Clean.
This 2018 promises to be the year of the takeoff of Android One. Nokia embraces this version of the operative system throwing all the mobiles of the MWC 2018 with it. It has its logical advantages (greater fluidity, maintains the essence of Android, faster updates …), but lost in personalization: entering a Nokia 8 Sirocco does not involve an experience too different from that of another mobile with Android One. Although it goes very fast, that has to be stressed.
That you like a clean experience and want a powerful mobile? This can be a great aspirant. What do you prefer a manufacturer customization with software add-ons? Android One is a limitation in this sense since it is not intended to offer differentiation. Without implying that they do not exist, of course
